Goa, Jan. 2 -- Members of the Muslim community in Margao have expressed serious concern over what they allege is external interference in the administration of the historic Arab Saab Sunni Jamia Masjid. They claim that the mosque - which has a legacy of more than 150 years as a centre of worship, education and communal harmony - is increasingly being influenced by individuals with alleged criminal backgrounds.

According to the concerned members, certain outside elements have begun interfering in the routine functioning of the masjid, creating unrest among its registered members. They have demanded that fresh, transparent and democratic elections be held to ensure fair management of the mosque without intimidation or undue pressure.
