Goa, Oct. 7 -- Seventy-one-year-old lawyer Rakesh Kishore, who tried to throw a shoe at Chief Justice of India BR Gavai inside the Supreme Court, defended his actions on Tuesday. Kishore said he was reacting to the CJI's comments during a previous hearing concerning a religious matter. The Bar Council of India has suspended Kishore's license immediately.
The dramatic courtroom episode occurred when Kishore suddenly approached the judges' dais and attempted to throw his shoe. Security personnel quickly intervened, preventing any harm. Kishore cited instances where the judiciary allegedly treated cases involving Sanatan Dharma differently from other communities, including remarks made by the CJI about a PIL filed on September 16.
