Goa, Jan. 7 -- Fishermen from Caranzalem met the Deputy Director of Fisheries to raise serious concerns after reports indicated the presence of heavy metals in fish caught off Caranzalem beach. The fishermen have demanded that experts from Goa University and the National Institute of Oceanography (NIO) clarify within three days whether the locally caught fish is safe for consumption.
They also alleged that a powerful builder lobby is attempting to undermine and marginalise traditional fishing communities. The fishermen have urged authorities to protect their livelihoods and ensure transparency regarding the safety of marine produce.
