India, Nov. 28 -- Ramponkars in Canacona are up in arms after a private resort blocked the traditional access route leading to their homes along the shoreline. The fishermen have questioned the practicality of the Mhaje Ghar scheme, arguing that it holds little value if their only access path is obstructed.
The route, used for decades and essential during festivals and community activities, was locked by the resort earlier this month despite it being operational since 2004. The sudden closure has sparked outrage among residents, who say the blockade has disrupted their daily movement and cut off an important cultural pathway.
