India, Jan. 18 -- The Principal District and Sessions Judge, Sherin G. Paul, on Wednesday sentenced 43-year-old businessman Bharat @ Bhomaram Choudhary of Borda to 10 years of rigorous imprisonment for attempting to murder, under Section 307 of the Indian Penal Code. The court also imposed a fine of Rs 1 lakh, failing which the accused will serve an additional two years of simple imprisonment. The case had shaken the Salcete business community and sent ripples across the local trading fraternity. Of the fine amount, Rs 50,000 will be paid as compensation to the victim if the fine is deposited.
