Goa, Nov. 18 -- The Kolhapur bench of the Bombay High Court has granted permission for the capture and temporary relocation of Omkar, the wild elephant that has been roaming across Sindhudurg and Kolhapur districts. The court has directed that Omkar be shifted to the Radha Krishna Temple Elephant Welfare Trust (Vantara) in Gujarat, where authorities will supervise his care and management.
The decision comes amid increasing concern over the elephant's unpredictable movement and the danger posed to villagers in the affected regions. Forest officials are expected to begin the capture operation soon, following the court's directives. Further details are awaited.
