Goa, Dec. 24 -- Ajay Gupta, co-owner of the Birch nightclub, has been remanded to five days of police custody by the Judicial Magistrate First Class (JMFC), Mapusa. Gupta was arrested by Mapusa Police in connection with an alleged fraud and forgery racket involving the use of fake health certificates to secure trade licences for the nightclub.

Police sources said that Gupta is suspected of being involved in the fabrication and submission of fraudulent documents required for obtaining statutory permissions. Investigators are now probing the extent of the alleged conspiracy and whether more individuals or establishments are linked to the case.
