Goa, Nov. 26 -- Intense activity at Betul has raised serious concerns among local residents, who fear the proposed port project will destroy the beach ecosystem and cripple the tourism-driven economy that thrives on Goa's renowned white-sand coastline.

During a recent Gram Sabha, the Cavelossim Panchayat unanimously passed a resolution opposing the development. "We stand firmly against this port, which the government is attempting to push through despite its destructive consequences for Goa and its people," said Cruz Cardozo.

Residents and local leaders say they will continue to resist the project, citing irreversible environmental damage and long-term economic fallout.
