Goa, Dec. 14 -- Two persons, including a woman, were granted Indian citizenship under the Citizenship (Amendment) Act (CAA) in Assam, taking the total number of beneficiaries under the Act in the state to four, their lawyer said on Sunday.

Senior advocate Dharmananda Deb, a former member of the Foreigners' Tribunal in Silchar, said this marked the first time a woman had been granted citizenship under the Act in the northeastern state.

According to Deb, the 40-year-old woman entered India from Bangladesh in 2007 and had been residing in Sribhumi district, while the 61-year-old man came to India in 1975 and had been living in Cachar district.
