Goa, Oct. 31 -- Heavy post-monsoon rains have damaged nearly 20% of the standing crops across parts of Salcete, affecting close to 20 hectares of farmland, according to an official assessment by the agriculture department.

Salcete Zonal Officer Adolfo Da Costa confirmed that the most affected areas include Curtorim, Nagoa, and Fatorda, where farmers have reported significant losses following continuous rainfall over the past week.

"We have completed the assessment, and around 20% of the crops in Salcete have been lost due to the heavy rains," Da Costa said, adding that the department is preparing a report for submission to higher authorities for relief and compensation measures.
