CANACONA, June 27 -- Fresh reports in neighbouring Karwar, Karnataka that cancer cases have increased by a staggering 200 per cent in the last few years has increased concerns among residents of Canacona. The taluka is already burdened with the many unexplained cases of renal failures and locals fear that any other disease will be disastrous, and have sought a study.

A study conducted by Tata Memorial Centre (TMC) has found that the number of cancer cases in Karwar and adjoining areas of Mallapur where the Kaiga Atomic Power Station (KAPS) is located, has increased by 200 per cent over a period of three years.
