Goa, June 23 -- South Goa Congress MP Viriato Fernandes has taken a strong stand against the government, accusing it of failing to ensure the safety of women in Goa. Speaking at a Goa Pradesh Mahila Congress (GPMC) block strengthening meeting in Vasco, Fernandes said the situation has become so dire that women now fear stepping out even during the day.

"Goa was once a place where women felt safe even late at night. If someone was delayed due to work or a bus breakdown, families didn't panic. Today, even stepping out in broad daylight causes anxiety," he said.
