The Food and Drug Administration (FDA) has confirmed that the H5N1 avian flu has affected dairy cows in the United States. The virus has been found in pasteurised milk in many states. However, the Department of Agriculture and the FDA have also stated that the "US milk supply is safe because of the diversion or destruction of milk from sick cows."
