Liberia: House Summons Commerce and Agriculture Ministers Over Rice Price Hike Amid Public Outcry
Monrovia, May 22 -- In the wake of the pronouncement by Commerce Minister Amin Modad that the Government of Liberia has given in to importers' demand to increase the price of rice on Liberian market, the House of Representatives has invited the Ministers of Commerce and Agriculture to appear before it full plenary next Tuesday, May 28.
The motion, as proffered by Rep. Ellen Attoh Wreh (District #3, Margibi County) and amended, called on Minister Modad and Agriculture Minister Alexander Nuetah to appear and explain in detail reasons behind the move, and to outline sustainable plans to solving the aged-old rice problem.
