Liberia: Controversy Brews as Pres. Boakai Reportedly Prepares to Replace NaFAA Director General Despite Being Signatory to Act Giving Her Tenure
MONROVIA, Feb. 23 -- In 2017, in his capacity as Vice President of Liberia and head of the Senate, Joseph Boakai, now President of Liberia, signed the Act that amended Title 23 of the Natural Resources Law. This action brought into being, under the amendment, the National Fisheries and Aquaculture Authority (NaFAA). The Act prescribed that this entity would be headed by a Director General who would be recommended to the President by the Board for appointment, with the consent of the Senate.
