COLOMBO, March 5 -- The Public Utility Commission of Sri Lanka (PUCSL) announced it had approved the reduction in electricity tariff by 21.9% with effect from midnight Monday (4).

In an across-the-board reduction, the tariff for hotels and the industrial sector has been slashed by 18%, religious places by 33%, and the State sector by 22%.

In reduction based on usage, unit prices for those consuming below 30 units a month have been reduced by 33%, 31-60 units by 28%, and 61-90 units by 30%. For those using between 91 and 180 units, the per unit price has been reduced by 24%, while for those using above 180 units has been reduced by 18%.
