Dhaka, Aug. 4 -- The government has planned to put on retirement a good number of liquid fuel-fired power plants, mostly the rental and quick rental ones installed in private sector with the total capacity of 4,390 MW, over the next five years (2019-2023).

According to official sources at the Power Division, the move to bring down liquid fuel use in power generation was taken as part of the government strategy to reduce dependence on liquid fuel and increase the use of gas and coal in power generation.

At present, the generation capacity of liquid fuel-fired power plants is 6,100 MW or 32.59 percent while the total power generation capacity is about 18,000 MW.
