Dhaka, April 21 -- Press Release, Dhaka (Monday, 21 April 2025):

The government has decided to prohibit the establishment of any new industrial ventures or projects within the 10-kilometer Ecologically Critical Area (ECA) surrounding the Sundarbans. The Ministry of Environment, Forest and Climate Change will soon issue an official gazette notification in this regard.

This decision was taken at the 16th meeting of the Executive Committee of the National Environment and Climate Change Committee held on Monday at the ministry's conference room at Bangladesh Secretariat. The meeting was presided over by Syeda Rizwana Hasan, Advisor to the Ministry of Environment, Forest and Climate Change and the Ministry of Water Resources.
