Jhapa, June 20 -- A total of 4,800 foreign tourists entered Nepal via the eastern border point of Kakarbhitta in the first five months of 2025, according to the Immigration Office at Kakarbhitta.

The figure, which excludes Indian nationals, includes travellers from 63 countries who arrived in Nepal overland between January and May. On average, 32 tourists entered the country through this route each day, the office said.

In 2024, a total of 6,101 tourists had entered Nepal via Kakarbhitta, with a daily average of 17. Compared to last year, the flow of tourists this year has nearly doubled, said Tulsi Bhattarai, chief of the immigration office in Kakarbhitta.
