Rautahat, Jan. 8 -- At least 48 people were injured after being bitten by a rabid dog in different areas of Gadhimai Municipality in Rautahat district on Wednesday, triggering fear among local residents.

Children, elderly people and women were among those injured in the attacks. Five of the victims, who sustained severe head injuries were referred to Birgunj for further treatment, according to Provincial Hospital in Gaur.

Dr Murari Thakur, chief at the hospital, said all victims were administered anti-rabies vaccine as a precaution.
