Kathmandu, June 1 -- Police on Saturday detained Rastriya Prajatantra Party-Nepal (RPP-Nepal) chair and former home minister Kamal Thapa from the Naxal-Narayanchaur area in Kathmandu.

Thapa was taken into custody amid ongoing pro-monarchy demonstrations led by RPP, RPP-Nepal, and other royalist groups, who have been holding protests since May 29 demanding the restoration of the monarchy, which was abolished in 2008.

According to Kathmandu Valley Police spokesperson Apilraj Bohora, Thapa was arrested for violating the restricted zone order declared around the Narayanhiti Palace Museum area.
