Kathmandu, March 29 -- The Kathmandu District Police informed Speaker Devraj Ghimire that Rastriya Prajatantra Party (RPP) lawmaker Dhawal Shumsher Rana has been arrested on criminal charges for his alleged involvement in arson, vandalism, and looting during violent protests led by pro-monarchy groups in Kathmandu on Friday.
Rana was arrested after the royalist protests on Friday evening, which escalated into violent clashes, causing significant property damage and resulting in fatalities. Police allege that the lawmaker played an active role in the criminal activities during the demonstration. A formal letter regarding his arrest was sent to Speaker Ghimire, confirming the details of the arrest.
