Kathmandu, March 28 -- A protester injured in a pro-monarchy demonstration at Tinkune has died after being shot by police on Friday.
He was pronounced dead upon arrival at Tribhuvan University Teaching Hospital, Dr Subas Acharya, hospital director, said. The body has been sent to the forensic department for post-mortem in coordination with the police.
The deceased's identity has not yet been confirmed, police said. Authorities initially used tear gas to disperse the demonstrators before firing rubber bullets and live rounds into the air.
Videos on social media showed protesters snatching police weapons and attacking officers. Demonstrators set fire to private homes, shops, media offices, and government properties.
