Kathmandu, Jan. 1 -- The Nepal Stock Exchange (Nepse) fell by 12.83 points on Thursday, marking a 0.48 percent decline compared with the previous trading day. The drop follows Wednesday's gain of 10.87 points.

Market data show that share prices of 63 listed companies increased, while 189 declined and 8 remained unchanged. Of the 13 sub-indices, all except the 'Others' group closed lower.

The development bank sub-index recorded the sharpest fall, losing 25.94 points, followed by the life insurance group, which declined by 101.78 points. The 'Others' subgroup edged up by 0.27 points, offering the only positive movement of the day.
