Kathmandu, March 30 -- Nepal Media Society, an organisation of owners of Nepal's major media houses, has condemned the attack on media institutions during a protest by pro-monarchy groups and urged the government to take immediate legal action against those responsible.

Issuing a statement on Saturday, the society said it was deeply concerned over the assault on press freedom. It denounced the violent attacks on the offices of Annapurna Post and Kantipur Television in Kathmandu's Tinkune area on Friday, calling it a direct assault on the law and freedom of expression.
