Gorkha, Jan. 6 -- The Nepali Army has commenced a trek along the historic footpath used by King Prithvi Narayan Shah during the Gorkha Kingdom's expansion to commemorate the unification campaign. The journey began on Sunday from Hanuman Bhanjyang near the Gorkha Durbar.

According to lieutenant colonel Ashok Kumar Chhetri of the Ripumardan Battalion, the trek will proceed district by district, with segments handed over to respective battalions. On the first day, the Ripumardani Battalion covered the route from Gorkha to Ghatbeshi on the Gorkha-Dhading border. Sunday evening, the torch and flag representing the trek were handed over to Dhading's Shivdal Battalion at Ghatbeshi.
