Nepal, Jan. 15 -- A major political party in Sri Lanka representing the Tamil minority, the Ilankai Tamil Arasu Katchi (ITAK), recently asked its parliamentarian, S Sritharan to step down from the Constitutional Council after he supported the candidature of the government-nominated candidate-a serving military officer attached to the Sri Lanka Army's Audit Division-for the position of Auditor General. The ITAK has been opposed to the militarisation of civilian institutions in Sri Lanka, especially after the civil war.
