Kathmandu, March 24 -- The government has sacked Kulman Ghising from his position as the managing director of Nepal Electricity Authority (NEA), a move that has drawn sharp criticism from political leaders and the public.

A Cabinet meeting on Monday evening decided to remove Ghising, according to a minister. The government had previously sought explanations from him multiple times, with Energy Minister Deepak Khadka accusing him of defying government instructions.

However, Home Minister Ramesh Lekhak reportedly opposed the decision at the Cabinet meeting, warning that Ghising could be reinstated by the court. Despite his objections, Foreign Minister Arzu Rana Deuba reportedly backed Khadka's stance, leading to the final decision.
