Taplejung, July 23 -- A massive flood swept away the Rani Bridge over the Tamor River, which connects ward 5 and 6 of Phaktanglung Rural Municipality, early Wednesday morning.
Constructed four years ago by Remit Hydropower Company at around Rs50 million, the Bailey bridge was washed away at around 4am, according to ward 6 chair Pemba Tashi Sherpa.
Mukunda Pokharel, site in-charge at Remit Hydropower, said the flood followed heavy rainfall since Tuesday evening.
Local resident Gyabu Sherpa said floods occurred in the Tamor, Ghunsa, and Hellok rivers, and a landslide struck the Sotli area in Lelep. However, residents in the affected areas managed to escape in time.
