Solukhumbu, May 15 -- year-old Filipino mountaineer has died while attempting to summit Mount Everest.

Philipp II Santiago reached Camp IV at approximately 8:00 PM on Wednesday but succumbed to exhaustion shortly thereafter, a press release issued by the Department of Tourism, on Thursday said. He had arrived at the camp visibly fatigued, and his body was found at the site.

The Department confirmed that Santiago's remains have been left at Camp IV, located at an altitude of 7,900 metres, due to the extreme conditions and logistical challenges of retrieval.
