Butwal, Dec. 10 -- Deputy Superintendent of Police Madhu Nepal, who has been serving in Nawalparasi East, has been arrested on a charge of polygamy. Rupandehi police are carrying out further investigation.

His first wife, Tara Nepal Khanal, had filed a complaint accusing him of entering a second marriage. Following the complaint, Rupandehi District Court on Monday allowed police to arrest Nepal.

Superintendent of Police Pradip Bahadur Chhetri of the District Police Office, Rupandehi, said Nepal came to the office on his own after learning about the complaint and has been taken into custody for investigation. "His custody has been extended by three days on Tuesday," he said. "The investigation is underway."
