Kathmandu, April 11 -- The Kathmandu District Court on Friday remanded controversial businessman Durga Prasai to 12 days in custody for his alleged involvement in the violent pro-monarchy protest in Tinkune on March 28.

A single bench of judge Shishirraj Dhakal approved the remand following a request from the police, said court information officer Deepak Kumar Shrestha. Prasai's bodyguard, Deepak Khadka, who was arrested with him, has also been remanded for the same period.

As Prasai is a cancer patient, the court has directed the police to arrange for his medical treatment as per a doctor's recommendation.
