Solukhumbu, Oct. 29 -- An Altitude Air helicopter crashed in Lobuche, close to the Everest Base Camp, on Wednesday morning.

The helicopter, which had flown from Lukla to pick up foreign tourists at around 7:43am, skidded on snow while landing at the Lobuche helipad, police said.

Deputy Superintendent of Police Manojit Kunwar, chief of the District Police Office, Solukhumbu, said Captain Vivek Khadka, who was the only person onboard, escaped unhurt. He was airlifted to Lukla by a Kailash Air helicopter.

Chief District Officer Lila Kumari KC Pandey confirmed the crash at around 8:15am. Police said the helicopter did not catch fire but toppled over on the snow-covered helipad.
