SRINAGAR, Jan. 29 -- As "Chillai Kalan' approaches its end, the Meteorological Centre in Srinagar has forecast a week of wet weather starting Wednesday afternoon in Jammu and Kashmir, officials said.

The 40-day-long harshest period of winter, known as "Chillai Kalan," in the Kashmir Valley is set to conclude on January 30. This phase largely remained dry, except for two brief spells of snowfall.

The MeT office said the weather will generally remain cloudy with the possibility of widespread rain and snow over Jammu and Kashmir this afternoon.

It said there are chances of fairly widespread light to moderate rain, snow, and thunderstorms on Thursday.
