SRINAGAR, Sept. 8 -- Two soldiers, including a Junior Commissioned Officer (JCO), were martyred in an ongoing encounter in south Kashmir's Kulgam district, where security forces have so far gunned down two unidentified terrorists, officials said.

A joint cordon-and-search operation was launched in the early hours by the Army, CRPF and J&K Police in the Guddar forest area following specific intelligence input.

According to the Army, vigilant troops noticed suspicious movement and challenged the suspects. The terrorists in hiding opened fire, triggering a fierce exchange of gunfire during which two terrorists were killed.
