Jammu, July 25 -- In a significant crackdown on illegal timber smuggling, police teams from Gharota and Chowki Choura, in coordination with the Forest Department, seized two vehicles transporting illegally felled Khair wood during late-night naka checking operations on the intervening night of July 23 and 24.
In the first incident, a joint naka and night patrolling team of Gharota Police and forest officials intercepted a black Safari vehicle (Reg. No. MH02CB-0457) near Thathi Bridge.
The driver, upon spotting the police, attempted to flee and managed to escape under the cover of darkness. Upon inspection, the vehicle was found carrying 11 Khair wood logs, weighing approximately 5 to 6 quintals, meant for unauthorized commercial sale.
