JAMMU, June 25 -- Senior BJP leader and former Deputy Chief Minister Kavinder Gupta on Wednesday termed the Emergency imposed on June 25, 1975, as the "darkest chapter in the history of Indian democracy," stating that it was a ruthless assault on the Constitution and the fundamental rights of the people.
Addressing a programme organised at R.S. Pura on the occasion of Emergency Day, which was observed as Constitution Murder Day under the leadership of Jammu Border District President Rinku Choudhary, Kavinder Gupta said the events of 1975 must serve as a grim reminder of how the then Congress regime trampled upon democracy for the sake of power.
