India, April 7 -- While Indian govt gives statewide distribution of Islamic sect cases, WHO says it isn't helpful

Countries should not profile novel coronavirus disease (COVID-19) positive cases in terms of religion or any other criteria, the World Health Organization (WHO) recommended in a press conference on April 6, 2020.

WHO's Emergency Programme Director Mike Ryan made the observation while addressing a specific question regarding India where a particular Islamic sect has been blamed by the government.

"Having COVID-19 is not anybody's fault. Every case is a victim. It is very important that we do not profile the cases on the basis of racial, religious and ethnic lines. This does not help," Ryan said.
