At least 99 of the 243 exisiting mines in Odisha are non-operational for the want of statutory clearances, mines and coal minister Pralhad Joshi said in the Lok Sabha on March 4, 2020. The mines include that of manganese, bauxite, dermite, coal, chrome, lime, gold etc.
These clearances include mining plan/ scheme of mining, environment clearance, forest clearance and consent to operate from the State Pollution Control Board, Odisha.
The mines will open after requisite clearances are obtained, said the minister.
For non-working iron and manganese mines, the lessees will also need to obtain Supreme Court order for modification of 16 May, 2019 order seeking re-commence...
