India, Sept. 8 -- India's total vehicle retail sales registered a modest 2.84% growth in August, reaching 19,64,547 units compared to 19,10,312 units in the same month last year, according to the Federation of Automobile Dealers Associations (FADA).

Passenger vehicle sales were almost flat, inching up to 3,23,256 units from 3,20,291 units in August 2024, the industry body said.

Retail sales of passenger vehicles grew 0.93% year-on-year. While the month started positively with strong enquiries and festive bookings, sales momentum slowed in the latter half as the announcement of GST 2.0 reforms prompted many buyers to defer purchases in anticipation of price cuts, FADA noted.
