India, April 7 -- Swan Defence and Heavy Industries Limited (SDHI) has secured a Category 4 order from Energy ONE Limited to build four 92,500 DWT dual-fuel ammonia bulk carriers, marking a first-of-its-kind project in India.
These vessels will be the first ammonia dual-fuel ships constructed in the country and among the largest commercial ships ever built at an Indian shipyard, highlighting a major leap in India's shipbuilding capabilities.
The ships, measuring 229.5 metres in length with a 37-metre beam, will feature ammonia-based propulsion systems, supporting the global transition toward low-emission shipping. The vessels will be designed by KMS-EMEC (South Korea) and classified by Det Norske Veritas.
