India, Jan. 14 -- Silver and gold prices smashed fresh records in futures trade on Wednesday, driven by rising expectations of interest rate cuts by the US Federal Reserve and escalating geopolitical tensions.

Silver futures soared by Rs 12,803 to a lifetime high of Rs 2,87,990 per kg, while gold futures jumped Rs 932 to hit an all-time high of Rs 1,43,173 per 10 grams.

Extending gains for the fourth consecutive session, silver contracts for March delivery on the Multi Commodity Exchange surged Rs 12,803, or 4.65 per cent, to their highest-ever level of Rs 2,87,990 per kilogram.
