India, Nov. 11 -- The rupee appreciated by 16 paise to settle at 88.57 (provisional) against the US dollar on Tuesday, supported by progress on the US shutdown bill and optimism surrounding a potential US-India trade deal.

According to forex traders, a recovery in domestic equities and positive global cues bolstered the local currency, though rising crude oil prices and foreign fund outflows limited further gains.
