India, May 7 -- The rupee weakened by 31 paise to 84.66 against the US dollar in early trade on Wednesday, following heightened cross-border tensions after India launched military strikes on terror camps in Pakistan and Pakistan-Occupied Kashmir in retaliation for the Pahalgam attack.
In the early hours of Wednesday, Indian armed forces targeted nine terror sites, including the Jaish-e-Mohammad stronghold in Bahawalpur and Lashkar-e-Taiba's base in Muridke, as part of 'Operation Sindoor.' The strikes come two weeks after the Pahalgam attack, which claimed the lives of 26 civilians.
