India, Oct. 31 -- The rupee ended flat at 88.69 (provisional) against the US dollar on Friday, as losses from weak domestic equities and a firm greenback overseas were offset by support from lower crude oil prices.

At the interbank foreign exchange market, the domestic currency opened at 88.60, touched an intraday high of 88.59 and a low of 88.78, before closing unchanged from its previous session.

On Thursday, the rupee had slumped 47 paise to close at the same level after US Federal Reserve Chair Jerome Powell signalled that inflation remains above target and labour market uncertainties persist, dampening expectations of a rate cut in December.
