India, May 13 -- Retail inflation fell to a nearly six-year low of 3.16% in April, driven by lower prices of vegetables, fruits, pulses, and other protein-rich items, according to government data released on Monday. The decline keeps inflation well within the Reserve Bank of India's comfort zone.

Consumer Price Index (CPI)-based inflation stood at 3.34% in March and 4.83% in April 2024. The last time inflation was this low was in July 2019, at 3.15%.

Food inflation dropped to 1.78% in April, down from 2.69% in March and significantly lower than the 8.7% recorded in April last year.
