India, Dec. 24 -- NHPC has begun partial commercial operations at its long-delayed Subansiri Lower Hydroelectric Project, nearly 13 years after the original completion timeline.

The 2,000 MW hydropower project, located along the Assam–Arunachal Pradesh inter-state boundary, commenced commercial power generation with the inauguration of Unit-2. The unit was virtually inaugurated by Union Power Minister Manohar Lal from New Delhi.

The Subansiri project comprises eight generating units of 250 MW each. NHPC said the remaining units are expected to begin commercial operations in phases in the coming period, marking steady progress toward full commissioning of India's largest hydropower project.
