India, Oct. 16 -- The Ministry of Mines has released the State Mining Readiness Index (SMRI) and State rankings, marking a major step toward driving mining sector reforms across States, in line with the Union Budget 2025-26 announcement.

The index evaluates State performance in non-coal mineral mining based on indicators such as auction performance, early mine operationalization, exploration efforts, and sustainable mining practices.

States have been classified into three categories based on mineral endowment.

Category A: Madhya Pradesh, Rajasthan, and Gujarat secured the top three positions.

Category B: Goa, Uttar Pradesh, and Assam led the rankings.

Category C: Punjab, Uttarakhand, and Tripura topped the list.
