India, Dec. 17 -- Indian Railways has provided free Wi-Fi services at 6,117 railway stations nationwide, the government informed Parliament on Wednesday. No separate funds have been sanctioned by the Ministry of Railways for these services.
The government clarified that no personal information is collected to access the Wi-Fi facility, except for a mobile number used for OTP authentication. Issues related to Wi-Fi functionality are addressed promptly by the railway administration.
Meanwhile, installation of CCTV surveillance remains an ongoing process. So far, CCTV systems have been installed at 1,731 stations and 11,953 coaches, funded under capital expenditure, to enhance passenger safety and security.
