India, Jan. 5 -- India's urea imports surged more than twofold to 7.17 million tonnes during the first eight months of the current fiscal year, reflecting increased reliance on overseas supplies amid a decline in domestic production, industry data released on Monday showed.
According to figures from the Fertiliser Association of India (FAI), urea imports jumped 120.3 percent to 7.17 MT in the April–November 2024–25 period, compared with 3.26 MT in the corresponding period last year. Meanwhile, domestic urea production slipped 3.7 percent year-on-year to 19.75 MT during the same period.
